8/3(土)～ 8/4(日) 『Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix International Car show』 が開催されます

今週末 8/3(土)～ 8/4(日) にSchenley Parkで『Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix International Car show』 が開催されます。そこに、日本車愛好家団体の Pittsburgh Kyushaの皆さんがブースを出されます！

1980～90年代に日本市場で販売された日本車や、いわゆる”痛車”なんかも集まるようです。ご興味のある方は、ぜひブースに足を運んでみてください。

また、同ブースでは、ペンシルベニア日米協会の方々を中心に、日本文化の体験として水風船などのコーナーが出されます（両日9時半～15時頃を予定）。

This weekend, August 3rd (Sat) to 4th (Sun), the ‘ Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix International Car show‘ will be held at Schenley Park. The Japanese car enthusiasts group, Pittsburgh Kyusha, will have a booth!

They will be showcasing Japanese cars from the 1980s and 90s that were sold in the Japanese market, as well as “Itasha” cars. If you are interested, please visit their booth. For the location, please check the map at the bottom of the following page. It seems that Gate D is the closest: https://pittsburghkyusha.org/pvgp

Additionally, at the same booth, the Japan-America Society of Pennsylvania will be hosting a Japanese cultural experience corner featuring water balloons, among other activities. This will be held from 9:30 AM to around 3:00 PM on both days. They are looking for volunteers, so if you can help, please contact me at pittsburghjagp@gmail.com.

早急のお知らせになりますが、明日7月17日(水)、明後日18日(木)、太鼓奏者加藤拓也氏とその御子息の演奏会がそれぞれ２ヶ所で講演されます。其々担当の方々(市原、本山、安澤、高野（敬称略))からのご連絡により、以下の通りお知らせします。

加藤氏は2008年に和太鼓界では世界最高峰とされる「東京国際和太鼓コンテスト・大太鼓部門」で最優秀賞を受賞し、国体での御前演奏や総理官邸での演奏経験がある加藤拓三さんが、全米50州での1000回の演奏会を目標に演奏旅行中ですが、この度Pittsburghでも演奏会を開催することとなりました。

参加無料ですので、皆様お誘い合わせの上、是非ご参加ください。チケット代は無料ですが、会場にはドネーションボックスを設置させていただきますので、皆様のご協力を賜われれば幸いです。

This is an urgent notice to inform you that Mr. Takuya Kato, a taiko drummer, and his son will give lectures at two different venues tomorrow, July 17 (Wed.) and the day after tomorrow, July 18 (Thu.). The following information was provided by the people in charge of these events (Ichihara, Motoyama, Yasuzawa, Takano (honorifics omitted)).

Takuzo Kato, who won the grand prize in the “Tokyo International Wadaiko Contest Odaiko Division,” the world’s most prestigious taiko competition in 2008, and has performed at the National Athletic Meet and at the Prime Minister’s Office, is currently on a performance tour with the goal of performing 1,000 concerts in all 50 states in the US, and he will be holding a concert in Pittsburgh He will be holding a concert in Pittsburgh as well.

The concert is free of charge, so please come and join us. There is no charge for tickets, but we will have a donation box at the venue, and we would appreciate your cooperation.

2024 パイレーツVSドジャース観戦会を開催しました Pirates vs. Dodgers Viewing Event Report

6/4(火)〜6/6(木)、PNCパークで行われたパイレーツ対ドジャースの観戦会を実施しました。MLBで大活躍中の大谷翔平選手が初めてピッツバーグにやって来るとあって、イベントの告知直後から続々と申込があり、延べ195名もの方々に参加いただきました！

大谷選手を間近に見られるようにと、今回は従来よりも内野側の座席を確保。座席からは、ダウンタウンのビル群や橋も見渡せる絶景でした。

有難いことに三連戦の全試合に大谷選手が出場！参加者は、大谷選手が打席に立つたびに固唾をのんで見守り、一喜一憂していました。一番のハイライトは 2日目6/5(水) 大谷選手の2打席目で飛び出した特大ホームランです！皆さん思わず立ち上がって、大きな歓声をあげていました。

この観戦会の参加者以外にも、多くの日本人がこの3連戦を観に来ていたようでした。日本人だけでなく、アメリカ人でも「OHTANI」のユニフォームを身に着けている方が複数いて、人気の高さがうかがえました。参加者のなかには、手作りの応援ボードをお持ちの方もいて、テレビ中継でも大きく映されていたそうです！

ドジャース所属のもう一人の日本人選手、山本由伸投手の登板も期待されましたが、今回は残念ながら出場なし。来年はピッツバーグでお目にかかれることを期待しています！

試合の結果はパイレーツ2勝・ドジャース1勝でした。大谷選手の活躍にも沸き、地元パイレーツの活躍にも沸き、ピッツバーグの日本コミュニティメンバーにとってはとても応援しがいのある三連戦だったのではないでしょうか。

参加者の皆様からも「生の大谷のホームランを観れて最高だった！」「何年振りかで球場の雰囲気を楽しませてもらった」「とてもいい席で、友人たちとともに楽しませてもらった」といったお声をいただきました。

来年も大谷選手や日本人選手がピッツバーグに来る機会には、是非観戦会を企画したいですね。お楽しみに！

From June 4 (Tue.) to 6 (Thu.), we held a viewing event for the Pirates vs. Dodgers games at PNC Park. Since Shohei Ohtani, who is doing great in MLB, was coming to Pittsburgh for the first time, we received a flood of applications right after the event was announced, with a total of 195 participants!

To give everyone a closer view of Ohtani, we secured seats on the infield side this time, offering a spectacular view of the downtown buildings and bridges from the seats.

Fortunately, Ohtani played in all three games of the series! Every time Ohtani stepped up to bat, the participants watched with bated breath, experiencing the highs and lows of his performance. The biggest highlight was the massive home run he hit in his second at-bat on the second day, Wednesday, June 5th! Everyone stood up and cheered loudly.

Besides the participants of this viewing event, many Japanese fans seemed to have come to watch this three-game series. Not only Japanese fans but also several Americans were wearing “OHTANI” jerseys, indicating his high popularity. Some participants even brought handmade cheering boards, which were prominently featured in the TV broadcast!

Another Japanese player on the Dodgers, pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, was also expected to play, but unfortunately, he did not appear this time. We hope to see him in Pittsburgh next year!

The results of the games were two wins for the Pirates and one win for the Dodgers. The series was thrilling for Pittsburgh’s Japanese community members, as they could cheer for both Ohtani’s performance and the local Pirates’ victories.

Participants shared their excitement with comments like, “It was amazing to see Ohtani’s home run live!”, “I enjoyed the ballpark atmosphere for the first time in years,” and “We had great seats and enjoyed it with friends.”

We hope to plan another game-watching party next year when Otani and other Japanese players come to Pittsburgh. We look forward to seeing you again!

2024年 ピクニックを開催しました Picnic Report

5/4(土) O’Hara Township Community Parkにてピクニックを開催しました。あいにくの雨模様でしたが、実に110名を超える皆様にご参加いただき、にぎやかに交流を深める機会となりました。

まずはお食事で腹ごしらえ。バーべキューグリルで焼き肉やホットドッグを提供しました。旧茶屋特製レシピ”日本協会専用焼き肉のタレ”でいただくお肉は大人気で、どんどん焼いてもすぐになくなっていきました。その他にも軽食やスナック、果物なども楽しんでいただきました。特に、Kiku様の五目ちらし寿司、Teppanyaki Kyoto様の唐揚げは大好評でした！

こどもの日の前日ということもあり、つきたてのお餅で作った柏餅もご提供しました。やわらかいよもぎ餅にあんこを入れて柏葉を巻いて、懐かしい日本の味に舌鼓を打ちました。新聞紙でかぶとを折るコーナーも設け、親子でかぶとを作って楽しんでいただきました。

お腹がいっぱいになった後は、各々のんびり過ごしました。シェルター内でゆっくりお話をしたり。お子さんは、公園の遊具で遊んだり、シャボン玉をしたり、釣りをしたり、小雨のちらつく中でも元気に走り回っていました。

開催後のアンケートでは「お食事も会場も申し分なく楽しかった」「お肉やお餅がとても美味しかった」「日本の柏餅を子供に食べさせてあげることができて良かった」といったご感想をいただきました。ただ、初めての参加だと交流が難しかったというご意見もあり、次回はぜひ交流につながる工夫をできればと思います。

こういったバーベキューを行うピクニックは、コロナ禍を挟んで実に5年ぶりでした。経験のある理事も少なく、手探りの開催でしたが、ボランティアの方々のご協力のおかげで無事に開催することができました。本当にありがとうございました！

On Saturday, May 4th, we held a picnic at O’Hara Township Community Park. Despite the rainy weather, more than 110 people attended the picnic, which was a lively opportunity to deepen exchanges with each other.

First, we started with a meal to fuel ourselves. We offered barbecue grilled meat and hot dogs. The meat, enjoyed with the special recipe “JAGP Special Yakiniku Sauce” from Chaya, was a big hit; it disappeared quickly as we grilled more. Additionally, attendees enjoyed light snacks, fruits, and other treats. Especially popular were Kiku‘s chirashi sushi and Teppanyaki Kyoto‘s karaage(fried chicken)!

As it was the day before Children’s Day, we also provided freshly made Kashiwa Mochi, made from freshly pounded rice cakes. Soft yomogi (mugwort) mochi filled with sweet red bean paste and wrapped in oak leaves brought back nostalgic flavors. We also set up a corner for making kabuto (samurai helmet) out of newspapers, which parents and children enjoyed together.

After filling our bellies, everyone spent time relaxing. Some spent time talking in the shelter. Children played on the park’s playground equipment, played with soap bubbles, fished, and ran around energetically despite the flickering light rain.

In the post-event questionnaire, we received comments such as “the food and venue were perfect and enjoyable,” “the meat and rice cakes were very tasty,” and “it was nice to be able to feed the Japanese Kashiwa Mochi to the children”. However, some said that it was difficult to interact with the participants for the first time, and we would like to try to make it easier next time!

It had been five years since we had held a barbecue picnic like this after the COVID-19 pandemic. With few board members having experience, the event was a bit of a trial-and-error affair, but thanks to the cooperation of all the volunteers, we were able to successfully host the event. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved!

ピッツバーグさくらプロジェクトからお知らせです。

ノースパークの桜が美しく開花して今週より3週間ほど１０種類の花が楽しめます。

　　多くの方々に御協力いただき2009年より植樹をして来ました。

　　是非、お出掛けください。

　　また、4月14日日曜日午後2時より”花見会”を行いますので、是非とも事前登録をお願い致します。

2024年 春の一日領事館 5/23(木) 17:00-20:00

会員の皆様へ

在ニューヨーク総領事館による春の領事出張サービス（一日領事館）が、5/23(木)ピッツバーグで開催されますので、お知らせいたします。

※サービスを受けるには【5/8(水)必着】で領事館に書類提出が必要ですので、ご注意ください。

<日時>　2024年5月23日(木) 17:00-20:00

<場所>　Comfort Suites Pittsburgh Airport
750 Aten Rd., Coraopolis, PA, 15108

<受けられるサービス>
● 旅券（パスポート）の交付　● 証明書の交付と受付　● 在外選挙人登録申請等の受付

＜注意事項＞

  • 「パスポートの交付」「証明書の交付と受付」は【5/8(水)必着 】で書類提出が必要です。
  • 「パスポートの交付」はオンライン申請が利用できます。ただし、手続きに時間がかかるため、開催1か月前までには申請を開始するようにとのことです。
  • 平日夜の開催です。通勤ラッシュの渋滞が見込まれますので、時間に余裕をもってご移動ください。
