6/4(火)〜6/6(木)、PNCパークで行われたパイレーツ対ドジャースの観戦会を実施しました。MLBで大活躍中の大谷翔平選手が初めてピッツバーグにやって来るとあって、イベントの告知直後から続々と申込があり、延べ195名もの方々に参加いただきました！
大谷選手を間近に見られるようにと、今回は従来よりも内野側の座席を確保。座席からは、ダウンタウンのビル群や橋も見渡せる絶景でした。
有難いことに三連戦の全試合に大谷選手が出場！参加者は、大谷選手が打席に立つたびに固唾をのんで見守り、一喜一憂していました。一番のハイライトは 2日目6/5(水) 大谷選手の2打席目で飛び出した特大ホームランです！皆さん思わず立ち上がって、大きな歓声をあげていました。
この観戦会の参加者以外にも、多くの日本人がこの3連戦を観に来ていたようでした。日本人だけでなく、アメリカ人でも「OHTANI」のユニフォームを身に着けている方が複数いて、人気の高さがうかがえました。参加者のなかには、手作りの応援ボードをお持ちの方もいて、テレビ中継でも大きく映されていたそうです！
ドジャース所属のもう一人の日本人選手、山本由伸投手の登板も期待されましたが、今回は残念ながら出場なし。来年はピッツバーグでお目にかかれることを期待しています！
試合の結果はパイレーツ2勝・ドジャース1勝でした。大谷選手の活躍にも沸き、地元パイレーツの活躍にも沸き、ピッツバーグの日本コミュニティメンバーにとってはとても応援しがいのある三連戦だったのではないでしょうか。
参加者の皆様からも「生の大谷のホームランを観れて最高だった！」「何年振りかで球場の雰囲気を楽しませてもらった」「とてもいい席で、友人たちとともに楽しませてもらった」といったお声をいただきました。
来年も大谷選手や日本人選手がピッツバーグに来る機会には、是非観戦会を企画したいですね。お楽しみに！
From June 4 (Tue.) to 6 (Thu.), we held a viewing event for the Pirates vs. Dodgers games at PNC Park. Since Shohei Ohtani, who is doing great in MLB, was coming to Pittsburgh for the first time, we received a flood of applications right after the event was announced, with a total of 195 participants!
To give everyone a closer view of Ohtani, we secured seats on the infield side this time, offering a spectacular view of the downtown buildings and bridges from the seats.
Fortunately, Ohtani played in all three games of the series! Every time Ohtani stepped up to bat, the participants watched with bated breath, experiencing the highs and lows of his performance. The biggest highlight was the massive home run he hit in his second at-bat on the second day, Wednesday, June 5th! Everyone stood up and cheered loudly.
Besides the participants of this viewing event, many Japanese fans seemed to have come to watch this three-game series. Not only Japanese fans but also several Americans were wearing “OHTANI” jerseys, indicating his high popularity. Some participants even brought handmade cheering boards, which were prominently featured in the TV broadcast!
Another Japanese player on the Dodgers, pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, was also expected to play, but unfortunately, he did not appear this time. We hope to see him in Pittsburgh next year!
The results of the games were two wins for the Pirates and one win for the Dodgers. The series was thrilling for Pittsburgh’s Japanese community members, as they could cheer for both Ohtani’s performance and the local Pirates’ victories.
Participants shared their excitement with comments like, “It was amazing to see Ohtani’s home run live!”, “I enjoyed the ballpark atmosphere for the first time in years,” and “We had great seats and enjoyed it with friends.”
We hope to plan another game-watching party next year when Otani and other Japanese players come to Pittsburgh. We look forward to seeing you again!
